He was also responsible for developing Rowcroft.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1841 Census\u00a0<\/strong>John Stephens &#8211; Schoolmaster, Elizabeth Stephens &#8211; Wife, John Stephens &#8211; Son and 5 students (5-10 years old) and 1 servant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1843<\/strong>\u00a0Report of a fire that destroyed the building &#8211;<br \/>\nLeamington Spa Courier &#8211; Saturday 25 November 1843<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>&#8220;Rodborough Fort, near Stroud, was almost entirely destroyed by fire, on <\/em>Tuesday<em>. Referred to Common Committee. Lord of the\u00a0Manor was Mr S. S. Marling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1903<\/strong> Offered for sale at Auction. Ellen Eliza Goode &#8211; Widow &#8211; Independent Means, Richard Smith &#8211; Boarder &#8211; Solicitor, Edna Sandley &#8211; Visitor, William Clifford &#8211; Gardener, Mary Hall &#8211; Housemaid<\/li>\n<li><strong>1917 <\/strong>Charles Apperley purchased the Rodborough Manor Estate from Mr S Marling and became Lord of the\u00a0manor\u00a0of Rodborough.<\/li>\n<li><strong>by 1928 <\/strong>Mr G B Philpin is Lord of the\u00a0Manor of Rodborough<\/li>\n<li><strong>1932\u00a0<\/strong>The fort was put up for sale &#8216;with Manorial Rights&#8217; on the death of Mr George Bridges Philpin who owned a business making braces in\u00a0Coventry (Owned Fort from at least 1919) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ancestry.co.uk\/family-tree\/person\/tree\/30114976\/person\/48572108791\/facts\">Ancestry<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1933<\/strong> Bought by Thomas Bainbrigge Fletcher<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thomas Bainbrigge Fletcher (25 March 1878 \u2013 30 April 1950) was an English entomologist. Although an amateur lepidopterist who worked in the Royal Navy, he became an expert on &#8220;microlepidoptera&#8221; and was appointed as the second Imperial Entomologist in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1937\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Thomas Bainbrigge Fletcher gifts Rodborough Common to The National Trust, which required a public subscription of \u00a37,000 to fund ongoing upkeep.<\/li>\n<li><strong>1949\u00a0<\/strong>Rodborough Fort put on sale after Thomas Bainbrigge Fletcher files for bankruptcy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1949\u00a0<\/strong>Sold to Mr G J Pitcher of Beaconsfield, Bucks\u00a0 for \u00a33,500<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1956\u00a0<\/strong>Used to house Hungarian refugees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>1960&#8217;s &amp; 70&#8217;s <\/strong>Operated as a Caravan &amp; Camping Site<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1981-1986\u00a0<\/strong> Owned and operated as a campsite by the Dadswell Family<\/p>\n<p><strong>1986 <\/strong>Purchase by Joanne Willie-Williams<\/p>\n<p><strong>1994\u00a0<\/strong>Joanne Willie-Williams evicted for mortgage arrears. Put on market at \u00a3295,000.
