Lovely collection – I am doing my family tree and one of my relations it was believed worked there. I believe it was burned down in the early 1900 due to someone smoking in bed, have you heard of this can’t find any information at the moment.
Hi Sue,
I am not aware of there being a fire at Rodborough Fort. Rodborough Manor was burnt down in 1906 as was Spilmans House in Rodborough at about the same time. I would be interested to know more if you do have further information about a fore at the Fort.
I’ve found a report of a Fire at Rodborough Fort in 1843. The Worcester Journal reported on Thursday 23 November 1843 “Rodborough Fort, near Stroud, was almost entirely consumed by fire last week”.
Myself and so many others used to go sledging up here in the 1950s and 60s,there were 3 runs down one of them called the cresta run.I also used to go there on Easter Sunday when people would gather and sing hymen’s.

I thoroughly enjoyed sledging on the common too. I wrote a sledge off when I hit one of the gullies at the wrong angle!
Very interesting, good to read about local history.
Super postcards.
